I initially started my yoga teacher training just for myself. Not with the intention of ever teaching yoga, but to learn as many tools as possible to help me find more balance in daily life, stay grounded when things get difficult, and understand how and why yoga works.
During my training, I discovered something unexpected. When I had to practise cueing and teaching friends and family, I realised that I actually really enjoyed teaching. Still, the idea of truly becoming a yoga teacher felt far out of reach. It brought up so much nervousness and even anxiety when I had to practice before a group or before exam classes, that I believed it simply was not for me.
Not long after, I was asked to teach my first classes. And I did something that changed everything. I stepped outside of my comfort zone, did something that felt scary and unfamiliar, and eventually found so much joy in it.
What drives me to teach is quite simple. Everything that yoga has given me. More calm, balance, body awareness, self-confidence and softness. These are the things I love to share with others. In my classes, creating a safe and welcoming space is at the heart of everything, with plenty of room for choice, body awareness and gentleness, no matter the style of yoga I teach.
I hope students leave my classes feeling more confident, more connected to themselves, and with a sense of balance that reaches beyond the mat. And hopefully with a smile, remembering that yoga does not always have to be serious. 😊
