My personal yoga journey

My yoga journey began in 2012, after the birth of my son. During a postnatal program, I was introduced to yoga for the first time. The feeling of relaxation after class was a completely new experience for me, and I began to realise how often I unconsciously held tension in my body.

Years later, after a period of personal setbacks and ongoing health issues, I came into contact with a complementary therapist on Curaçao who recommended yoga and meditation. Her guidance gave me tools to better manage the elevated stress levels in my body. This marked the next chapter of my yoga journey.

During this time, it became clear that many of my symptoms were linked to prolonged stress and unresolved trauma. My psychologist encouraged me to integrate bodywork, such as yoga, into my healing process. The book The Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk helped me understand the deep impact of trauma on the body and how yoga can support recovery. Yoga turned out to be a powerful way for me to not only improve my physical well-being but also to strengthen my mental resilience.

Eventually, I found a yoga studio on Curaçao where I felt safe and welcome. In the classes, I was invited to listen to my boundaries, let go of expectations, and be gentle with myself. Little by little, yoga became increasingly important in my life and started to bring about positive change. My resilience, self-worth, and energy levels improved, benefiting not only my well-being but also my role as a mother and my relationship with my children.

After a few years of dedicated practice, I decided to deepen my understanding by taking part in several yoga teacher trainings on Curaçao. What began as a personal search for calm and insight eventually grew into a passion for sharing yoga with others. Today, I teach with love and dedication, grateful for all that yoga has brought into my life, and continues to bring.
